July 27 is National Chili Dog Day. This easy recipe takes only 30 minutes and will go over well with everyone in the family at dinner. Here’s what you’ll need:
1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil, one turn of the pan
1 lb ground sirloin
salt and pepper
2 tps Worchestershire sauce
1 small onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 tbsp chili powder
8 oz can tomato sauce
8 footlong beef franks
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp hot sauce
8 Costanzo’s hotdog buns, toasted
2 cups shredded Cheddar (one 10 oz stack)
Once your ingredients are out and ready, heat a skillet over medium high heat. Add extra-virgin olive oil, sirloin and season with salt and pepper. Cook until brown. Add Worcestershire, onion, garlic, chili powder and cook together for five minutes. Then, add the tomato sauce and turn the heat down to low.
While you’re cooking the sirloin, boil franks in a shallow pan to warm through for about five minutes. Drain the water and return pan to medium heat. Score casings on dogs and melt butter in skillet and hot sauce. Add dogs to pan, browning and crisping the casings in hot sauce and butter.
Place the dogs in Costanzo’s buns and top with the chili and lots of cheese. Place dogs under broiler until cheese is melted. Serve them immediately for a delicious family meal!
